7 Items Of Clothing You Need To Remove From Your Closet Right Now

1/22/2021

Having a good closet clear-out can be the ultimate form of destressing. I am forever guilty of letting my wardrobe get out of control - we're talking clothes piled on the hamper, hangers all crazy, nothing in order - and it really puts my brain in a slump when getting read. In this post I'm going to be giving you 7 "clothing prompts" that I guarantee you can declutter right now. Clothes are beautiful and it's a true blessing to be able to have a full closet, but sometimes they can be the cause of some mental instability. I've said it before and I'll say it again.. sometimes your relationship with clothes can be like an actual unhealthy relationship. I sometimes purposefully trigger myself by trying on clothes that I wore as a literal teenager just to make myself feel awful about my eating habits/exercise routine. It's insanity. As people, we need to learn to let go of the things in our lives that repeatedly bring us unhappiness. I digress, get to your closet and let's do this together.

  1. Those jeans that haven't properly fit for years (if ever). Whether that's because of them being too small, too big, they are uncomfortable when you sit, or maybe you simply hate the way they make your butt or legs look. It's not worth it. Donate them to a thrift store or a charity shop. Even if they do one day fit, it's not worth the years that you will look at them in your closet and feel crap.
  2. The dress that you used to wear when you were younger so still hold onto despite it not being your style anymore, the fit no longer works, or it's looking a little tatty. Getting rid of the clothing item won't make the memories disappear.
  3. The "special occasion" piece that you hold onto despite knowing that you wouldn't want to rewear it for a similar event. I've been guilty of holding onto a dress that I bought for a wedding or party, telling myself that I would reuse it but knowing in my heart that I'd want to purchase something new as I rarely have the opportunity to buy a new swanky dress. It's okay that a dress cost you a small bomb because you don't want to add to fast fashion, even if you aren't going to rewear it. You paid to feel beautiful that day. Self love, people.
  4. The broken piece of clothing that you always say you'll get fixed or tailored but it's still been sitting in your closet for ages. If you didn't go ahead and do the alterations straight away, you don't like the piece enough to warrant keeping it. Make a pledge to yourself to get it fixed within the month, if it remains untouched, bye-bye.
  5. That item of clothing that fits but makes you feel horrendous whenever you put it on. The stomach drop feeling that comes from putting something on and looking in the mirror only to hate your body is NOT worth it. Save your future self from heartbreak and donate, donate, donate.
  6. That pair of shoes that you bought because they're beautiful but they either rub you, you can't walk in them, or they are the wrong fit. How often do you actually pull them out to admire their beauty? Shoes take up so many space if you're limited with room, it's not worth it!
  7. That item of clothing that you always debate getting rid of every time you do a closet clear-out. Trust your instincts! I go back-and-forth so many times with various pieces because I'm an indecisive lady. But know in your heart that if you've debated it before, you'll debate it again.

If this at all helped you to let go of a piece of clothing, tell me! I'd love to know. You're beautiful.

Self Love: Finding The Perfect Underwear With La Senza

7/01/2018

*Side-note: This post is in no way sponsored. I wish it was! I merely adore this brand and wanted to share my recent discovery on here. Who doesn't love new underwear?

Much like bras, it can be really difficult to find the perfect underwear. With a multitude of styles on the market and so many brands offering their own take on what's both sexy and comfortable, it's a world that can often lead you astray and leave you quite overwhelmed.

When shopping for underwear my main requirements are:

Fit: I want something that flatters but doesn't feel like I'm in some bondage getup.

Price: No one wants to spend almost £50 on 10 pairs of what can essentially be a piece of string.

Material: Softness and breath-ability is key.

How I Feel: Much like a good bra, a pair of panties can completely change how you feel in certain styles of clothing. Confidence starts with you.

Style: As comfortable as the four pack of basic cotton underwear is, sometimes you just want something a little extra for yourself. We all love something pretty, so why do we keep our favourite sets for special occasions? It's time to feel special every morning.

In a recent act of self love, I decided to invest more into my underwear collection. It wasn't that I fell out of love with my usual 3 for £7 from F&F (aka: Tesco), but I wanted to put something on everyday that made me feel good and I think a new set of underwear can do that. Hell, just wearing something that matches can do that. But whenever I searched online for some suggestions, I usually ended up on some overpriced website that felt forced or too limited in choice. Then La Senza came along.

There used to be a La Senza store in my hometown, so I was already familiar with the brand and that prompted me to seek out whether they had an online store. Low and behold, they did! I went instantly to their sale section and bought a few pairs of bloomers (do people still call panties bloomers? Google says yes.) that I thought would work for my needs, and gave them a shot. I was instantly in love. Within a few weeks, I had put in a bigger order and now a good portion of my underwear drawer is filled with pairs of briefs that I feel good in and look forward to wearing each day.

I never thought I'd find a brand that I'd wholeheartedly love, let alone a brand that could offer me a selection of styles in multiple colours that also allows me to order online without any sizing issues. My favourite style is the Ultra Soft Boyshort Panty as most have a gathered fabric detail on the bottom which is super flattering and the material is heavenly - win, win. If you like to wear something a little more risque then La Senza still has your back with a large variety of more "fancy" underwear sets in the After Hours section. I have yet to try their bras, but will most definitely consider it in future.

The site usually has some sort of deal going and free delivery, so be sure to give it a snoop. Treat yo self.

The point of this post is to obviously share this brand with you, but to also suggest that you do something that classifies as self love this week. You don't need to wait for someone to buy you something lacy, and you most definitely don't have to wait to buy such things because you're the only one that will see it. Confidence is hard enough for most of us, so why not help yourself a little along the way? Feel sexy for yourself.

Do you have a favourite underwear brand? Let me know down below!

'Tis The Season For Christmas Jumpers

12/05/2017

Even the Grinches of the world rock a Christmas jumper come December. No longer is it silly to have a 3D elf on your chest, whoop. But with the mass amount of options online, it can difficult to decide on one. After all, not all of us can afford a closet full of 'em. This is a list of my current favourite affordable sweaters from online stores that you may not think of. Enjoy!

MATALAN
Go classic with this black number.

'Tis the season of cocktails and sweaters. So why not combine the two?

The perfection solution for adding a little festiveness into your daily wardrobe.

If you find yourself not loving bright colours, this is a great solution.

PEACOCKS
The perfect day-to-day sweater.

You a bit OTT about Christmas? Wear this one with pride.

I just adore the pattern.

The perfect jumper for when you want some humour. Though don't wear it when you make Gingerbread men. That'd be rude.

M&S

The jumper that all bloggers are coveting.

This is in the 3 for 2 section! Grab some gifts and gift yourself a little sweater too.

This will look adorable with an a-line skirt and tights.

Pink and cuteness. Definitely a pick for those pastel lovers.

GEORGE at ASDA
Yay for cats and Christmas! The best combination ever.

Mummy Elf Jumper || £12.50
Who doesn't love to match with their children? Those Christmas photos will not be unbeatable.

This will definitely make the best outfit for those work parties.

Go different with this gorgeous pale blue shade.

TU CLOTHING

This is a random one as I know it's just one option, but I've seen such an online buzz around the M&S striped one that's listed above. This is a great affordable alternative.

Where is your go to place for some fun Christmas themed jumpers? Let me know!

Unappreciated Stores: Shoe Zone

10/05/2017

With the likes of ASOS and Topshop hitting the big time, other stores are being overlooked. I'm a proud shopper at those clothing stores we pass by on the high street on a regular basis, never going in as surely nothing that's "in fashion" will be there. Stop walking past! (Walk, shoe related post.. there's a pun there somewhere) You can find some fashion gems in these places - especially on their online sites. Not only that, but most are way more affordable simply because they don't have the shiny Topshop price tag. I'm hoping this will become a new segment for this blog as it's never a crime to shop around a little, and as the Autumn has taken us over, we are all looking to spruce up our wardrobe, right?

Today we're going to be concentrating on shoes. More specifically, boots. We all depend on our one pair of trusty boots come Winter but they can be expensive. More often than not, we just want something that'll keep our feet warm and something that's durable enough to survive a thousand dog walks (just me?). I adore Shoezone shoes. I've been buying from them for years and have not yet had one pair that has broken, so that's pretty darn good going. Stocked up with fur lined boots and styles that are currently hot in the press, you can't go wrong having a browse on their site. They even offer free standard delivery!

Top 5 Fictional Fashion Icons

7/29/2017

Style is a personal thing. We know what looks good on our bodies and tend to not stray from that safety net. But we all have those days where we look at our wardrobe and sigh over how predictable and/or familiar it is. In those moments we look to others for inspiration - whether that be in a magazine, bloggers, well known style icons, or even our friends. But I, like many, tend to look to the fictional women in my life. Being a TV show gal at heart, I find it easier to grow to love someone's style on screen rather than only spotting a new outfit every now and again on Instagram, plus I'm a strong believer in finding style icons with a somewhat similar body shape/height as you, which makes it an easier process. It's all well and good to look at Kate Moss for an outfit idea but let's face it, is that high neck crop top and trumpet skirt really going to look good on 5'3" me? Yeah, no. Not likely. I feel better looking at someone's style and knowing that it wouldn't look completely off on my body shape. So in those moments of dire need, I pull up Google Images and search for my favourite characters and then stare longingly at the clothes they don. It's a terribly lonely process, so let's now do it together. Yay! Here are my...

RACHEL BERRY || Glee
"Sexy librarian chic" answers Berry when asked to describe her style, and you can't really argue with that. I've adored Rachel's clothing since I saw my first episode of Glee when it aired on Channel 4 six years ago (I know, I'm crying over how fast that time has gone too). With chunky sweaters and mini skirts, you can't really call season 1 Rachel a fashion icon, though I did always have a secret love for the reindeer sweaters and white tights. But as the seasons went on, her style evolution was something to be admired. What I loved most about her wardrobe was how easy it was to replicate - her style being mostly built around basics that you can get for any price you choose. Berry is a queen and if I could steal anyone's wardrobe, it would be hers. (Minus the H&M pieces that I've already managed to snag on Ebay.)
-
BLAIR WALDORF || Gossip Girl
If you've ever Googled "Top Style Icons on TV" Blair Waldorf is usually spotted somewhere around the top. Unlike Rachel Berry, Blair's closet is compiled of patterns and textures and makes for more of an unattainable but admirable style. Due to being British, I particularly adore her outerwear and fondness of stockings and various hats, after all, it can be bloody hard to feel put together and stylish when you're wearing 35 layers. I've found inspiration in Blair's outfits more often than I'd care to admit and though I may not be able to always polish off a look with six inch heels, I sure can match my hat to my shoes.
-
SPENCER HASTINGS || Pretty Little Liars
She has always been my gamble when it comes to fashion. With her slim physic and height going against me, I'm always cautious when mirroring Spencer Hastings style. The only lady on my list who is miles from wearing anything I can replicate. I was unsure of whether I ought to include her, but then I thought of all the fashion tips I have taken from the character over the years - such as, it's okay to wear something super baggy if you makes you comfortable. It's okay to belt a cardigan, and PS: cardigans go with everything. And most importantly, it's okay to be little too dressed up for an occasion. I have many items of clothing in my wardrobe that don't really fit with my daily lifestyle, but I'm learning that it's okay to wear them just for an outing to the local shop or a thrifty hunt. Who cares? If you feel put together and somewhat pretty, go for it.
-
 LOUISA CLARKE || Me Before You
The only character from a movie (and book) on the list, but how can you not admire Lou and her wacky wardrobe? Now I'll admit that at least half of the outfits in Me Before You were questionable as all heck, but the few good ones marginally made up for it. With funky skirts and all the collars you could possibly want, how can you not fall it's charm?
-
 CLARA OSWALD || Doctor Who
I was thoroughly disappointed when Clara's fashion choices changed during her last season of the show. But alas, there were a few gems hidden among the questionable. This is another choice of mine partly due to the height/body shape similarities. I have gained a fair few outfits that I never would of tried if it hadn't been for seeing Jenna Coleman's character wearing something of the sort. Plus I may of also chopped my hair off thanks to her. So, yeah, just keep talking me out of getting bangs, people.
-
The Ones That Almost Made The Cut:

JESS DAY || New Girl
I really wanted to add Jess on my list, due to my regular Googling of Zooey's outfits - on AND off screen. But to be 110% honest, I've never seen an episode of New Girl. If I had, I imagine she would be much further up this life. Possibly snagging 2nd place.
(I repeat: Keep talking me out of getting bangs!!)
-
SOOKIE STACKHOUSE || True Blood
-
LYDIA MARTIN || Teen Wolf
-
MELINDA WARREN || Ghost Whisperer
-
BROOKE DAVIS || One Tree Hill
-
RORY GILMORE || Gilmore Girls
-
Who are your style icons? Do you look to fictional characters?

Material Girl In A Material World

7/15/2017

If you know me personally and/or you know anyone who has ever tried to buy me a gift, it'll be well within your knowledge that I'm difficult to buy for. I have particular likes and dislikes (who doesn't?), and I'm quite picky when it comes to material things. To go alongside that, I don't treat myself often with a luxurious self-gift as I'm a cheap skate. Yup, I admit it. Heck, a few weeks ago I almost sobbed over spending £5 on a Topshop dress from the charity shop. I'm that girl. I digress, I thought it was about time to gather up a list of my favourite things to 1) help guide gift buyers along, and 2) to make myself realise how much I love these little things and that I ought to indulge sometimes. It's healthy to treat yourself. Hell, the entire world seems to be falling down right in front of our eyes, so we ought to be able to partake in a little self love. Here are things that I don't need in life, but that I enjoy having.

Disclaimer: I hope I get the message behind this post properly across. This is in no way asking for expensive gifts or saying that I'm going to go on a shopping spree and buy all the things. It's merely a list of material items that you may find a little joy in too. Life is more about moments, and I'm fully aware of that. It's all in aid of fun, and blogging. Just sayin'.

BOUX AVENUE NIGHTWEAR
Or more specifically their satin and lace chemises. If you want buttery soft PJ's that also gives more support than any bra I have tried, check out this brand. My chest has never felt so comfortable on my skin, come to think of it, nor have it ever felt more uplifted. I'm a strong believer in "Wear something that makes you feel nice, even if you're the only one who gets to see it." Whether that be lingerie, stockings, or fancy smancy nightwear. What I like most about these specific chemises is the cut - it's pure perfection which amounts to a hell of a lot during low confidence days. Hell, I've worn one under my dresses countless times. At over £40 a piece, it is quite the investment. But like with most things, you have to work out whether you'll get your wear out of it for the price. I have easily spent that, if not more, on crappy PJ's that I've hardly worn because they make me feel unpretty and/or they've broken. So, yeah, I'd say it's worth it. I'm definitely going to try out their bras at some point in the near future. Have you tried things from this brand other than nightwear? Let me know!

FAIRYLIGHTS
Who doesn't like a soft glow in the room? This is entirely on my list because of comfort. My mind is a place of absolute chaos 99.9% of the time, and these little tiny dots of warmth help. So who am I to argue? I particularly enjoy doing some yoga at night with the only light source being the fairylights draped over my bookshelves. It's simply calming. If you don't have at least one string of lights in your room, get some. Try it. Read under them. If you hate it, your box of Christmas decorations will thank you.

GIN
Gin & Tonic or Gin & Soda tends to be my go-to choice if having a drink at home. I don't have a particular brand favourite - give me a few more years - so I can't pinpoint one and go "Try it!" but alas, Gin = yum. (Drink in moderation/not at all, kids)

JOANIE CLOTHING
In the words of Rachel Berry, 'Sexy Librarian Chic'. That is how I'd happily describe my style. The closest brand I ever found to matching my wardrobe needs was Joy Louche but the price tags put me off more than once. There stepped in Joanie. Affordable clothes that are so freaking pretty I could weep at the screen. I won't, but I could. Petticoats, cat prints, and vibrant colours. Eek! Here are some of my current favourites to lust over.

LOTION
The weird one on the list, but yeah, I'm a girl who loves some lotion. My favourite being Garnier Body Intensive 7 Days Repair. Lotions/body butters can be quite expensive, especially given how often you have to replenish your stock (much like skincare) So it's always worthwhile stocking up when they're on offer or pleasant to receive as a gift. Every few months or so I question my spending on them and instead buy some other brand in Home Bargains or Poundland, and I always regret it. We spend so much on our facial skin, so why do we skimp when it comes the rest of our skin? Anne, always asking the big questions. But yeah, I like lotion.

MEMORY CARDS/STICKS
I can justify this (non)fun one! I take a lot of photos. And when I say photos, I mean photos of my cat. I'm a photo hoarder, I even keep the ones that are a little blurry. It's a problem, but one I am not yet ready to discuss so let's move on. Memory sticks/cards are bloody expensive for what they are. I probably ought to invest in a external hard-drive one day but the thought of having everything important in only one place gives me the heebie jeebies. So for now, I'll stick to the little pieces of memory that I can label as "Bruno: Years 1-3", "Bruno: Years 4-7".

THE LIBRARY OF FRAGRANCE
Classic girly investment. We all want to smell nice, and fragrance pretty much covers that (though, you know, let's all keep slapping on the deodorant too). My personal favourite brand is Library of Fragrance due to the countless unique scents they cover - personal favourites being Rain, Rose and Jasmine. Designed to layer over each other, you can have endless fun customising your own personal scent. And at only £15 for 30ml, it isn't going to break the bank.

ART SUPPLIES
I'm a doodler. I like drawing meaningless things around the margin of my notebook. I like jotting down quotes and usually trail a graphic on paper before screen. I have many notebooks and am never afraid to splash out a few pounds every now and again on some new ones. But the pens and pencils? Well, let's just say I still doodle with a pencil that I had in primary school and I stole my favourite pen from my fiance. I currently have my eye on the sets listed below on Amazon but I would love some recommendations.

What are some of your favourite material things? How do you like to treat yourself?
Have I caused Madonna to be stuck in your head now? I'm sorry!

Inspired OOTD || Tracy Mosby "The Mother". (How I Met Your Mother)

1/22/2016

As mentioned in my previous Living With Body Dysmorphia: My Story post, one of my resolutions this year was to post more fashion related content. So here it is, my first ever fashion post. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad nervous. Silly, I know. The photo quality is awful and the mirror isn't the most clear, but this is new to me and I don't want to invest in anything better until I know for sure that I want to continue with this segment. Before I ramble on, let's get into this..

Little fact about me.. I love fashion and TV shows. A whole bunch. So much so that I am known to take inspiration from fictional characters when it comes to my daily outfits. If it weren't for a few weeks ago, I wouldn't of thought this to be a problem. But I there I was, standing in front of my wardrobe deciding on an outfit, and I realised that I was basing what I wanted to wear by which character's mentality I wanted for the day. Yeah.. This could be the defining moment that one would realise they have lost their marbles, but I'm a cup half full kind of girl so instead I saw an opportunity for blog posts. Yippee. You gain from my inability to be sane! This segment will be called.. *insert drum roll here* .. Inspired OOTD's! Don't be disheartened by my originality, I was born with it. (That was sarcasm, btw.) In all seriousness, I'm really looking forward to trying my hand at these posts and I hope you enjoy skimming them. Please be kind.
-

My first outfit post is inspired by the most underrated character to ever be on a sitcom: The Mother in How I Met Your Mother, also known as Tracy Mosby (née McConnell) played by Cristin Milioti. Rather ironic, isn't it? The entire show was dedicated to her and Ted's story, yet we barely got a handful of episodes with her awesomeness. A shame. Anywho, I fell in love with this outfit (pictured below) that she wore over the course of a few episodes and immediately began to look for a similar dress. You might recognize the dress from the 50 Shades Of Grey movie, as Dakota Johnson's character Anastasia Steele wore the same one at some point. Only she paired it with a grey blazer, tights and some brogues, A nice version that I might also recreate at some point. Not that I would want her character's mentality. Oy vey.

So here is my recreation. The only part I'm missing tremendously are an alternative for these boots that she pairs with her outfit in the show. If some are out there, I will find them. But for the time being, I substituted them with my much loved New Look boots.

Dress || Peacocks
Parka Jacket || New Look
Cowboy Style Suede Boots || New Look
Face || My own

I sadly couldn't find a dress that was striking similar, but this alternative from Peacocks was a bargainness (that a word?) £12 and has a similar colour palette. That'll do, Pig. Now.. the jacket. You wouldn't think it, but this was the hardest item to find. All parkas seemed to either have a fur lining, no string to nip in the waist, or were the wrong shade of green. I was about to give up when I stumbled across this gem on a messy sales rack in New Look. The best part? £15! The only thing it doesn't have is the option to roll up the sleeves but as I live in Wales, I doubt that option will be missed much.

So, there you have it. I promise to not ramble as much in my next Inspired OOTD. I'm thinking of doing one of these every fortnight or so, but we'll see.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
